Cold Spot: An area of psychic energy with a considerable amount of temperature change from the surrounding area. They may be free floating or stationary. All other possibilities for the temperature change must be ruled out before this is to be considered authentic.

Cold Reading: A fraudulent technique used by charlatans to obtain information about a person. It is usually accomplished by a series of statements and questions by a fraudulent medium, responding to verbal and non-verbal answers of the person being "read."

Collective Apparition: The witnessing of an apparition by two or more persons.

Control: A spirit of the dead who acts as a medium's guide or intermediary to the "Other World." Also known as a Spirit Guide.

Collective Apparition: A case where more than one person sees the same spirit phenomenon.

Crisis Apparition: A specific type of apparition where the agent projects his or her astral body at a time of crisis or death, usually to a loved one.

Cross-Species Communication: To have a special rapport and understanding with animals, plants or alien beings.

Crowley, Aleister (Edward Alexander): (b. 1875, d.1947) Scottish-born occultist, metaphysician, sorcerer, adventurer, poet and author of many occult treatises and manuals, including 'Magick in Theory and Practice.' Crowley once dubbed himself "The Great Beast 666," one of the few of his many monikers which stayed with him, and the press referred to him as "The Wickedest Man in the World." Although in some respects brilliant, Crowley gave himself over to excess, amorality and eventual dissipation. His writings are still studied and analyzed by many present day, serious students of the magic(k)al arts.

Crystallomancy: The art of gazing into a crystal globe, a pool of water, a mirror, or any transparent object to see visions or summon forth spirits.

Dee, Doctor John: (b. 1527, d. 1608) Alchemist, astrologer, seer and advisor to Queen Elizabeth I of England who, along with his somewhat unscrupulous associate Edward Kelly, supposedly devised a method of deciphering an angelic language, known as the  Enochian Calls.

Déjà vu: The feeling that a current situation has been experienced previously.

Dematerialization:  The disappearance or fading of a physical object.

Demon: An evil spirit or being which is said to have not ever lived on earth in human form.

Demonology: The study of demons.

Discarnate:  Having no physical form or body.

Disembodied voice: A voice heard or recorded that does not have a known source.

Direct Writing:  Writing that materializes on a previously unmarked surface without the aid of a medium's hand.

Direct Voice Phenomenon (DVP) : Is heard most often at a séance when a spirit speaks directly to the sitters, not though the medium. The voice usually is heard near the medium, but not out of her/his mouth.

Disembodied voice: A voice heard or recorded that does not have a known source.

Divination:  The ability to obtain unknown knowledge or future events from omens. Astrology may be considered divination.



Divining Rod:- A forked rod used to indicate the presence of water or minerals underground.

DMILS:  Abbreviation of Direct Mental Interaction with Living Systems. Used to denote instances where one person is attempting to influence a distant biological system, usually the physiology of another person. As it is unclear whether this represents an influence (see psychokinesis), a case of ESP on the part of the influence (see ESP) or an opportunistic selection process, the term 'interaction' has been adopted.

Doppelganger: A spirit of a living person or animal outside of the physical body. Being exact duplicates of the living person including dress, this could possibly be an projected out of body experience either consciously or unconsciously or a death omen. Typically "double-goers" are seen by others in distant locations just as the individual in question is about to die or has died.

Dowsing: A method of locating people, animals, objects and water by the use of a forked rod, or a bent pair of wires. It is believed that we all have this skill, but it is usually untapped.

Drop In Communicator: A spirit who shows up at a séance uninvited. They often don't stay, but can bring with them apports, noises and/or strange lights.

Druids : A spiritual Celtic practice (religion) based upon the love of nature and the Earth. It fosters: Love of Land, the Earth, the Wild and reverence for Nature. They were the priests, magicians, mystics and priestesses of the Celtic people. The oak and the mistletoe that grows within its branches were scared to the Druids. Mythologies describe Druids capable of control of the weather, healing, levitation and shape changing themselves into the forms of animals. See information sheets regarding Druids and Stonehenge.

Earthbound spirit: A spirit trapped or bound to the earth plane, usually referred to as a ghost.
It's theorized that they do not realize that they are dead, are stubborn, or are afraid to move on to the next world for whatever reason. Perhaps they have unfinished business or feel that they cannot move forward until something is fixed or achieved.

Ectoplasm: From the Greek words, "ektos" and "plasma," meaning "exteriorized substance." "Ghostbusters" Theory: slimy residue left over by a spirit who was recently in the area. More accepted explanation is that it is electromagnetic energy from a spirit. It is almost always white, (not green!) and changes form quickly, even when there's no wind. At times it is expelled from a medium's body while in a trance-like state. Ectoplasm is warm to the touch, and has a wax-like consistence. It can also be rubbery and disappears when exposed to bright light. Vaporous ectoplasm is light, and resembles clouds of smoke.

Ekimmu The legendary evil ghost of an individual who was denied entrance to the underworld and is doomed to walk the earth for eternity. Ekimmu means "that which is snatched away." One could become an Ekimmu by dying a violent death such as murder, drowning, or any other unsavory death.

Electro-Magnetic Field Meter: An electronic devise that detects the changes in the Electro-magnetic field. Since this field is around everything, care should be taken around electric equipment. A reading of between 2.0 and 8 usually indicates paranormal activity. Above that is manmade.
